My name is Lorna Dancey. I’m a storyteller who has spent over a decade gathering and sharing stories that matter, stories that heal, connect, and remember. For the past seven years, I’ve had the honour of sitting with Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and residential school survivors, documenting their truths with care and respect.

This work has shaped me, grounding me as a witness and deepening my commitment to carry forward the beauty of what remains.

Cheyenne’s Storytelling Series was born from this journey.

Cheyenne is more than a character I created. She’s a reflection of the childhood some of us never had, and the stories we didn’t get to hear. Through her eyes, we enter a world of gentle teachings, land-based learning, family connection, adventure and cultural joy. These stories reimagine what was lost and honour what can still be reclaimed.

Each book in the series is inspired by an Elders, Knowledge Keeper or a survivor who generously shared their time, their teachings, and their heart. I’ve sat at kitchen tables, walked traplines, picked berries, and listened beside the fire. These stories aren’t imagined, they’re remembered. They’re honoured. And they live on through Cheyenne, so that children today and tomorrow can grow up connected to story, spirit, and belonging.

Alongside the books, I also lead storytelling workshops that create space for truth-telling, legacy, and intergenerational healing. Whether I’m working with youth, survivors, or seniors, the heart of my work is always the same: to help others preserve their stories and pass them forward.

Thank you for being here.
